22 spring/summer 2020 Lawton First Assembly reaches out to our friends in the Lawton-Fort Sill community through our Compassion Ministry. Our compassion teams serve people in need by providing resources to sustain, encourage and enlighten. The heartbeat of our ministry is to show the love of Christ to those who desperately need it. Recently we received the following letter: At LFA, we love people. We are grateful to have the opportunity of giving a "hand up" to this precious family. God laid it upon my heart to write this letter. I am a mother of 5 children and a loving wife. Due to hardships, loss of my job because the business closed, and other financial issues, I have needed help and had to apply for programs like yours. I have been to other food pantries before, but yours is by far the most "inviting." You (the church) made my family feel just as good as a family member. We got the best food (wasn't outdated like other places) and we were treated so nice. I have been mistreated in other places, which makes it hard to ask for help. When I come here, I feel the presence of God. Not only that but it's very warm and welcoming by A L L T H E V O L U N T E E R S ! Because of the Clothes Closet, my kids received new shoes, new outfits, and new backpacks with lunch boxes. This is a weight off a mother's shoulders. I pray God blesses the people who make all of this happen. My gratitude is GREAT! We ate a great meal for supper, and my kids now have nice clothes for church in the morning, all because of you all! We thank you! Your love doesn't just show, we can feel it! P.S. My husband works side jobs to get us by. His favorite part…was the Deer Meat. P.S.S. Update…my husband was blessed with a job!
